Wiz Khalifa: ‘Lean Is Lame’

is not down with lean.

Fresh off the release of his latest mixtape, Laugh Now, Fly Later, a smoking Mister Cap took to social media to denounce the promethazine and codeine mixture with Sprite, commonly referred to as syrup.

“I was doing a little bit of thinking ’cause I like to think a lot,” he said. “When a lot of people follow one trend, or find themselves doing the same thing that everybody else is doing, you don’t really get somebody who speaks for the other side. So I’ma just go ahead and speak for the other side. Lean is lame. Not for the lean sippers. Don’t get in your feelings. It’s for the people who don’t fuck with that shit. Feel empowered. Know, lean is definitely lame.”

Khalifa isn’t the only one concerned about lean use. A medical professional, Dr. Esther Ihezie, recently addressed the complications that can arise from lean use, including liver damage.

These medications contain small dosages of each ingredient so when people try to get the desired euphoria, they end up consuming large, toxic doses that can cause organ damage,” Dr. Ihezie told DJ Booth. “For Tylenol, it is recommended that you don’t go over three-to-four grams a day or else your liver takes a hit. Essentially, what I am saying is that liver injury from [lean] does not take time; it can happen in one episode.”

Despite its popularity, lean has left a negative impact on the genre. In 2008, UGK rapper Pimp C died at 33. His autopsy revealed the cause of death was “due to promethazine/codeine effects and other unestablished factors,” according to the coroner’s report. Others, including A$AP Rocky and G Herbo have also discussed the negative effects of the drug.
