Russian President Vladimir Putin signs the Law prohibiting the use of Anonymity Tools

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Law prohibiting the use of Anonymity Tools that allows people to access banned websites.

The State Duma had adopted a package of amendments on 21 July. On 25 July it was approved by the Federation Council. According to the document the Federal Security Services and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will have the right to find Anonymizers, through which banned Russian websites could be accessed. If the creators of Anonymizers do not prohibit access to such information, then they will be blocked.

The The Federal Communications, Information Technologies and Mass Media Regulatory Authority will establish and maintain a State Register of Federal information resources, access to which is restricted in Russia.

The prohibition of Anonymizers, VPNs and other services, which help to bypass the banned websites, would enter into force on November 2017.
